1. I can't seem to get into the chat room - says it's full! Phil you want to go for that timber he's got 110%! Lovely oak - you'll come across loads of quirky stuff as you go but this sort of oak bloody hard to come by. Even if you plank it and store it - come back to it later.... Go for it mate. How much does he want for it?

  2. I'd say unless you have a special application in mind the mini mill (which cuts vertically) should be your second mill to a horozontal cutting mill (alaskan and small log mill).

    They fit onto all chainsaws.

Have a good look through my website alaskan mill I home of the portable chainsaw mill and also youtube YouTube - Mini and debarker.wmv and for more vids select 'more videos from alaskanmilluk' a button halfway up on the right.

The vids will show you all you need to know,

    Regards, Rob

  3. Alright Mark... hmmm yes really in between mills with that but you could get an Alaskan 36" mill and also a small log mill upright (usually £50-00+vat but will do for £40-00+vat). What this means is you can use the Alaskan 36" mill like a small log mill giving you max cut with that bar as it only clamps on near the saw dogs.

But if you get a larger saw later you can then fit the Alaskan 36" to that...

I don't advise using the Alaskan like this because the Alaskan has 2 flat clamps which don't grip the bar in the same way a small log mill does,

  4. Arbtalk is really playing my computer up at the mo!! Go for it Phil I reckon - we've all got to start planking and carving somewhere and I'm sure whatever you make will be good. If it isn't you have so much wood there then try again - the only way you learn. Go on have a go at it. Just give us a PM if you need advice and such but bear in mind I'm no expert!

  5. No worrys Scott. It's good to be able to help out someone like yourself. Cheers, Rob

  6. I'm gonna crash Phil. But let me know how you get on with this timber.

  7. No prob if you go here alaskan mill I home of the portable chainsaw mill and select the first product a wood engraving which says Pat!

  8.
Yes sure Andy - please sign up on my website Chainsawbars ? chainsaw chains, chainsaw bars and chainsaw accessories and then tell me so I can set your 10% disc, ta Rob

  9.

Alright Oli - just tried to call you! And didn't realise you were an arbtalker...

Not sure why the website said payment failed yet the paypal payments seemed to come through - did you pay on a visa card this morning? If so I'll refund that other paypal payment.

Also have put in £35-00 of spare parts to make up for your discount you didn't claim!

  10.
Hi Paul - sorry late reply been away! I got it off this company that since has gone under - they imported them. I was looking to buy off them and re sell but there was nothing in it really so lond and short of it is not sure where you would buy these now!

  11. Hi Pat,

Could be Pat. How long are they? Fresh cut or been drying? How much do you reckon they weigh and where abouts are you?

If you can give us an idea of the dimensions and thickness and condition. Give me a direct mail on [email protected] if it's easier. Thanks, Rob

  12. Sorry Ian but I had a falling out with Peterson re Skillmill. Did a large report on it when it first came out as they needed to put some basic issues right - 4 months later and I was still waiting. They have now discontinued production - I still bought one of thei bigger mills but they really messed me around with the Skillmill!!!

But have no fear and save some money cause there are some developments in the pipeline which I can say no more about at the moment... exciting developments!

  13. Yes I have Oregon skip link .404 ripping chain and also skip link square ground,

    cheers, rob

  14.

Does it apply to the 10 & 12 & 14 inch dime tips.

Yes all the dime tips and Q tips will fit the MS150 - on the dime tips they do need that extra drive link..I need to work out how to show this with the selectors.

Is it a solid bar - dime tip that you are waiting for ? Do you have an idea of what they will cost and would I really notice a great deal of difference between 10/12 inch light type and solid ??

The ones I am getting will be R7 (7mm tip), the dime tips I have are R10 (10mm) tip.

The new ones I am getting will run the 1/4" .043" chain - the ones I have run the 1/4" .050" chain.

If this is to be your only carving bar you need a standard dime set up... the new ones I am getting are only for detail work - they will not last at all doing regular carving.

If I decide to go with a light type should I select a different saw to be able to select the bar ? Sorry to muck about !!! But I'm desperate to get a dime tip on it

Thanks Ross

  15.
Oh and yes - just select an 018 to see all the carving bar options - they are all universal mounts and will all fit on the MS150.

  16.

Good point there - maybe you could do it but not sure... looking at vids on youtube the sharpeners look quite complex...

I don't know but I don't think so the sharpeners in the vids seem to stroke up the back then down the front...

  17.

Hi Shaun - yes I would just go with a 10" or 12" sugi light type dime tip bar... bear in mind you'll need to have a 1/4" drive sprocket to run the 1/4" chain you have to use with a dime tip....

Either that or a 10" or 12" Quarter tip - you're existing drive sprocket is prob 3/8 lo pro but double check.

Also did some vids here

  18.

Hi Joe - Stihl do these and I'm not sure if I have them in stock at the moment.. typically am away now for a few weeks and don't have the Stihl parts list with me but what you need I think is a rim and sprocket kit and then you change the rim to an 8 tooth.

I think the part you want is 0000 642 1241 and they have them here Search results for: 'picco 8t rim' | L&S Engineers may be best to give them a call and double check first... Rob

  19. Just seen you are hanging up the harness Steve - so what you doing then? Webshop specialising in climbing bits and bobs or something totally different (and no need to tell me of course if still under wraps!)

If you think anything we can collaborate on let me know but either way sure it will work out well.

  20.
Hi Craig - what sort of stuff are you thinking? We won't be at the show ourselves this year, Rob

  21.

That was 9 months ago Richie! Have you registered on my website - Chainsawbars ? bars, chains and chainsaw accessories

If so what's your surname? I'll do you the usual 10% off as well as give you a free pack of grinding stones for every pack you order so buy one get one free.

Rob

  22.
Have sent you a PM David, Rob

  23.
I see Beau well the grinding stones come in 5/32", 3/16", 7/32", 1/4" and 5/16" although I think I may be out of the 5/16" at the mo... but I'll do you the same offer buy a grinder and I will do buy one pack of grinding stones get one free.

  24.
In fact I may just do this as an offer for today and the weekend!

  25. Where abouts is it and can you get a 12 tonne grab lorry to it? Also when are you thinking of taking it down? Spoke to Tracy and Ian and will be looking at their oaks when I get back off holiday. Thanks for the referral, Rob
