  1. Loved that Mike! That guy was an amazing shot.:thumbup1: I was brought up on NZ videos of hunting, my dad used to get them sent over from relatives.

Have you been to the Rocking Ropes in Taupo?, the guy that runs it made his money doing the above, his chopper is on a stand at the front with a big net over a stag, its cracking:001_smile:

I lived in Taupo for a couple of years. The ropes course was there then, but the Museum was pretty small and mainly a Tourist shop. There are some great Books and DVD's about the Venison Recovery industry in the late 70's and 80's.

  2. If you tried to fire a Lee Enfield untill the Barrel Glowed,it would

1 Be impossible to see the sights from the Heat Mirage from the Barrel

2 Be impossible to Hold because the Barrel would have heated up the Wood to the point of the oil coming out of the Stock burning your hands.

3 Self Loading Rifles have been used in Deer Recovery since day one.L1A1's,G3's,BAR's etc have been common since the 1950's.I venture your friend is pulling your Leg.

Ask him to show you the Photos of his exploits.

  3. Like it or not,Deer are regarded as Pests in New Zealand by the Government. When the price of Venison in Europe climbs, Aerial Venison recovery takes place. The Animals are gutted on the Hillside and flown to a Truck to be taken to a Chiller and eventually Europe.

The Shooter is trying for Head/Neck Shots,as the Carcass is worth more. This explains the Misses. Also the Caliber of the Rifle he is using dose not lend itself well to Body shots anyhow.

  4. the blasers are about the fastest actions that were alowed, is there much advantage with semi auto in centre fire or not?

    Yes.

For game on the Run,or Multiple Targets you cannot beat a Semi Auto.

Typically Semi Automatics are not as accurate as Bolt Action or Single Shot Weapons. There are expensive exceptions to the Rule and this Rifle is one of them.

  5. Yesterday a mate and I gt to test fire the new Sauer semiautomatic Rifle.

The Rifle we were lent was chambered in 30/06 and during the course of the day we fired a few over 200 rounds. We both came away highly impressed with the Rifle.

Sauer has managed to build a Rifle with a High level of Accuracy and reliability pushing this semi auto into a leauge only previously occupied by High Quality Bolt Action Rifles. With off the shelf factory ammo, the Rifle consistantly shot sub MOA.

.Also they have managed some of the safety issues that arise when using a semi auto in the Feild, for example you can cycle the action without cocking the striker, when game is spotted you manually cock the striker using a switch on the back of the action.

The Rifle retails for around £2000,the Scope and Mounts £1600 more.

  6. I think that the setup mounted n the Red U900 is what you are after.I know its expensive but think about how much you could be making doing Treework instead of pissing around fabricating mounts for that old Crane.

Offer the man 3.5K for the Crane and see what he sayes.
