  1. Try to make sure that its clean first , i usually hold them close to my ear and check for grinding noises.

    the hinge is a place where dirt collects

    I've used this thing (oral irrigator) for cleaning. works great

  2. This is what i use.

    made from a ball/stopper thing from sailing shop £1. and tent rubbers.

    The rubber keeps it short and the karabiner in place.

     

    Don't use a knot because this happens.

    And if it really gets stuck the rubber band will break . mind you these tent rubbers are very strong.
