In all seriousness. Was two rope working one of your considerations when you were designing your harness?

Yes but not as a mandatory requirement. Fail to Safe, built in redundancy and the wider choice of options. I don't use two lines alot  but the two bridges add a lot of stability when branch walking, as the two rings are usually apart etc. It's also nice to have that option as the work plan often changes once you are up in the tree.

Presumably all of the harnesses with a single bridge will be deemed inadequate for tree work now too?

good job there's some designed with two or three independent bridges then?

So am I getting this right they are going to ban knots ? Would this count for friction hitches too ?

yep. are you competent to tie that knot? has that knot been tested to work with the rope and hitch cord combination you are using? AND do the rope manufactures approve that whole set-up?

yes there is the turtle burger CE climb, but 'they' have moved the goal posts and its impossible for any one else to do!

Yeh i was being sarcastic with my comment. Their system makes a lot of sense to me but will never happen in our industry. If a level 3 had to go up a tree to inspect a L1's knots and anchor then he might as well do the job himself.

so the biggest problem is lack of training and inexperience?

The issue of friction with 2DDRT systems in a dense canopy is not to be underestimated. You could easily find yourself stuck if you had an injury. Plus if the rescuer has to bag in and tie in twice the time it takes to reach a casualty could be excessive. Which then raises the spectre of pre-installing TWO rescue lines. So now there are 4 lines in the tree plus a rigging line if required!

if you had a preinstalled access line and backup, it would be 6 lines, all requiring different anchor points, plus lanyards and H2H connectors, i think that there is upto 14 connection points/carabiners,

  6. update,  i called the TO after getting little scene from the admin assistant. glitch on their system, but the application is ok and i have the receipt from the Planning Portal so they except the dates and that 6 weeks has passed. crack on. result

and thanks for the feedback guys

  7. How do i stand, submitted a CA on the planning Portal and received a conformation that it had been sent to the council, checked the council website as they are now out of time, before we start work(light pruning) and its not there? crack on or ring the tree officer?

  8. just thinking aloud, a new sport of tree climbing for prize money.(nothing to do with work) there will be several divisions/leagues, removals pruning etc, with a handy cap system dependant on number in the team and size of chipper etc, this sport involves climbing trees however you want, to do the tasks depending in which league you are playing, to collect as much prize money in the shortest time. league positions will be worked out after handy cap taken (may be like golf as its a sport)

i think it will take some time to work out but from tomorrow, full on training for this exciting new sport
