  1. There are quite a few 130s about at the moment.  This fits your requirements.

When I started advertising there were few on the market and those advertIsed for silly money. I didn't really want to sell but I would if I could get crazy money. I dropped the price several times down to £10k but still not much interest.  Prices looked to have dropped and far more on the market now.

    Playing hard to get Ben?

To be honest from the adverts I saw I thought it would be worth a lot, but we have not had much interest. Had I known I probably would have not bothered spending so much fixing the chassis and bulkhead.

Feedback from some has been we need to spend even more to make it look smart, but I am not sure I want to put more money into it in the hope of making a return. I am not a used car dealer... It has basically be sat for the last 2 years hardly doing anything.

If someone wants it I will sell but I might just hang on to it and see if the US exportable market is a thing.. It needs the original chassis and engine which it has, but I think to be actually valuable it needs to be the crewcab tomb raider look..

It would depend on the machine, Ben.

Most manufacturers would not recommend it, however I do regular work with one that is lolered for lifting. You remove the basket and put a hook on the jib, and it's rated to lift around 250kgs. It's a 25m mewp with up to 12m outreach I think.

He's pretty close to you I think, CV23 postcode

Drop me a message if you want to know more m

Multitel have said its a no..

    A crane/mewp sounds like a good option..

  4. Has anyone used tracked MEWPs as an overhead anchor? I have used a vehicle mount in the past when spraying bunkers. In that case it was only there as backup but we have to remove some vegetation from a derelict building and would like to use the MEWP above as an anchor allowing us to work below  using a rope and harness. It would not be used for lifting and no weight other than the climber would be applied. It would be useful to actually abseil off the MEWP down into the building.   The waste could go out from the bottom once cut.

The IPAF says not recommended and only in "exceptional circumstances" with express written approval of the manufacturer.  (I have emailed the manufacturer)

Could you elaborate on the benefits you've found from being a member, does it extend to jobs you've won specifically because you are AA or does it help in a sense that it is 1 factor of many that means your company gets you work, or does it help skip certain compliance checks on new tenders/big companies?

Genuinely curious. I will join when a contract forces me to, but it would be nice to hear some first hand good experiences that have come from joining. Speaking to someone from the AA is sort of like asking a car salesman why you should buy his car IMO

My first post listed the main benefits as I see them. I am no zealot for the arb association but as evidence of its worth:

    From a Borough Council tender:

2.2.2     In order to be considered for this Contract, Suppliers must be for the lifetime of the Contract, an Aborcultural Approved Contractor.

You might see it as an old boys club, but it is a club that anyone can join and there are benefits of being a member.

    Hi all

can anyone who has applied to become a Arb approved contractor recently, explain their experience from submitting form to the process? Timescales etc?

    thanks

You will not get a clear view on a web forum about the Arb Association. Some people are very anti it and can be VERY vocal and will become abusive and unpleasant and any discussion online normally ends in personal attacks. That seems to be the norm on web forums these days..

In my opinion there are very few people who care enough about the Arb Association to defend it against the sort of abuse you are likely to receive if you were to stick your head above the parapet to do so.

In my opinion being an Arb Approved contractor is unlikely to do you any harm and there are a number of benefits as mentioned in my previous post. It is not perfect but I believe the benefits outweigh the cost.

I would recommend you do not take to much notice of the naysayers, call Paul at the AA, have a chat and see if it works for you.

  7. It is unlikely to make a difference with Mrs Miggins, who wants work doing for the cheapest price.

It is a requirement for many councils and some larger organisations so is a necessity if you want that work.

More informed (and arguably less price conscious) customers who want to instruct a company will be comforted knowing they are employing a professional company that has ticked lots of boxes.

It is a fantastic way to ensure you are audited by an external company and that if things go pear shaped and you end up in court you can say you were working to best practice (nice to know if you are the employer).

You get some nice stickers for the trucks.

You get emails letting you know about tenders for tree work.

It is NOT easy, you need to get lots of systems in place and the assessment day can be a very uncomfortable experience as someone will spend a day highlighting all the things you are not doing right.

I think it is worth it. Others do not.

I often had the feeling that what was particularly good for TOs (and there were a disproportionately high number on UKTC, no doubt still are) was that it was all email based and one could get a few interesting emails a day to the inbox without incurring the wrath of Council IT overlords by going onto internet forums.

That makes sense.  I always wondered why it existed as it did. To my mind the web based forums like arbalk were much more useable. I only used to  occasionally look in on it, it is a different crowd from what you get here. Some very knowledgeable people especially re the legal side and often ended up in the archive when searching online.

  9. I posted this on facebook, but thought I would add it here as different crowd.

Any one interested in our "slightly" singed BC1000XL. Its a 2014 model, 550 hours.  £64K + VAT if you wanted to order one in 2023.
It was damaged by a fire in a container next to it. It was never actually on fire itself.

Vermeer provided a report for the insurance but there are some pretty big ticket items on that list that I don't think are needed to get the machine operational. There might be other issues but we cannot test it in this state.

We would be interested in part exchanging it for another chipper preferably tracked if any dealers are interested drop me a message.
Interested to know what general people think its worth so feel free to discus but if you have an actual offer please email it.

Because of this my right shoulder does 99% of the work and , due to this , it has 2 snapped tendons . You have my sympathy .

    I was hoping for a positive story..🙁

It's a worry as there was no particular incident. I thought it was from using the computer and so got an ergonomic mouse and keyboard. I then thought maybe I was agravating it running as I did Snowdon and London marathons this summer. But been resting (cba) since London  and it's not improved.

  11. I have had a dodgy shoulder for decades, I can't really remember when it was great. I blame pull starting saws and climbing with a prussic. But for the last 5-6 months it has been totally buggered. Luckily (as I would not be able to) I don't do any real work or climbing these days. I got a physio appointment 6 weeks ago where the Dr diagnosed a rotator cuff tear. She sent me away with a load of exercises which have not helped.

Has anyone  any experience/recovered from rotator cuff injury. There was no incident and my googling suggests it's wear and tear. It's really starting to piss me off. Went away with the sea kayaks to Scotland in the summer and didn't even take them off the roof. Currently on holiday in Morroco watching family surfing and even body boarding results in significant pain
