We have been chipping trees for the council for the last few years, I also did it with my kids for charity one year.
When I did it with the kids we drove around and collected them chipping as we went. For the council we take a big chipper.. I would say you would want at least a 6 inch chipper if you are doing 50-100. But the bigger the better if you have a lot....

As Dalton trees says bat conservation trust/arb association run training:
Bats awareness for Arborists (makes you are aware every thing is a potential risk)
Scoping Surveys for Arborists
(Has nothing to do with endoscopes which confused me)
Secondary Surveys for Bats
(Allows you to Use an endoscope if you don't believe bats are present)
The traditional route involves hours of volunteering and making friends with bat groups. Although you could also try
BATS Research and Training

Welcome to Bats Research & Training. We specialise in delivering high-quality bat...- 2

Has anyone dug deep into (or is there a thread on here) as to what are some of the best vehicles that can be put down as a commercial but are also practical as a day to day run around. Still seems a little of a grey area. I want a vehicle that I can use for work - still to the school run - and get the tax back as it's classed as a commercial vehicle.
It is a compromise if you don't want a thirsty 4x4 crewcab pick up.
If you can manage with 2 seats there are lots of car derived vans. Fiesta, toyota corolla hybrid.
I also believe crew vans are also OK but not 100 percent sure. Caddy or transit connect.
HMRC have a list:
HM Revenue and Customs: car derived vans and combi vans - GOV.UK
WWW.GOV.UK
VAT registered businesses can use this list to determine if VAT can be reclaimed as input tax on particular makes and models of car derived vans and combi vans. -
I did an intensive course at Plumpton over 20 years ago. Great way to get aload of tickets. You don't know what your doing at the end of it, but it makes you very employable. Any employer knows you are committed. They also only have to invest time in making you competent.

My mum has a silver birch in her garden, i advised against doing it, but I reduced it for her 20 + years ago. She's had it topped a couple more times over the years each time against my advice. It might be a crap tree with loads of defects but still does a job and brings her pleasure.

Can anyone point me in the right direction for information regarding recommended tree pit sizes.
I have a site planted with 250 whitebeam in the early 1990's, many of the trees are now obviously past their best, many having been topped in the past, they were also apparently planted in precast concrete cylinders.
The site is being redeveloped and I want to convince them not to specify crappy sorbus, but will need to ensure the tree pits are suitable. Currently they are talking about retaining some of the compromised trees but I think it might be better to replace with better trees. -
Our crane operator has retired which is a shame as he was very good value and knew what he was doing.
Looking for recommendations for decent companies that cover the East Midlands.
I guess grapple saws are taking much of the work that was done once with a crane and climber which makes sense. We have used Wallace Timber Services in the past on a multiple day job and they were great, but they are miles away. which obviously adds to the cost especially if it is just a day or two job.
Are there any competent midlands based companies that have decent grapple saw set ups to deal with 20m trees. Or are they all still down south?

That is pretty much a definition of a nanny state, we the government can't trust you to behave by our rules so we make it mandatory for everyone!.
You'll probably be wanting as a temporary ..
No it's not..
And yes I would definitely like to keep drunk drivers off the road..

What a nanny state world you wish to inhabit.
Next you'll be saying nobody should have a driver's license as technology can do it for you, next it'll be only no cars.
Other than traffic volume, nothing has changed since our childhoods.
Not a nanny state. Happy for people to put their own life at risk in as many interesting ways as they like. What I am not keen on is knob heads putting my life in danger as they speed.
Also have 4 teenage children and would rather they weren't in cars driven by speeding numpties. There are 2 trees within 1 mile of my house bedecked with football scarves and shirts where boys have been speeding and killed themselves and passengers in one case.
Last Halloween we were at a party in the village when some idiot youths did a hit and run killing a chap walking home from the pub. Our host a nurse spent an hour giving cpr.
And if cars could drive themselves and were safer why would I drive?
-
I think 20 is plenty.. I wish is was that in my village. I think all new cars should be restricted to the speed limit. My sat nav knows how fast I am going and the speed limit. Speeding is apparently a contributory factor in around 30% of fatalities. Technology is great. Also like beeping when you're reversing. It makes life way easier and you can back right up to stuff..

Our pet rabbits died very suddenly from haemorrhagic disease. Quick google suggests hares also susceptible

I am playing devils advocate here, but no one has mentioned that aerial rescue practice is dangerous.. I am sure there has been at least one death durring training and that was with a professional trainer on site.
Is it possible that there would actually be more accidents after all this training?
How do you justify it under the WAH hierarchy of risk..?

I checked with the council and they were found on mature trees and not recent plantings. I can't believe this is an isolated case..

ArcGIS Web Application
FORESTRY.MAPS.ARCGIS.COMApparently OPM have been found by the forestry commission locally to us in Long Eaton.. Doesn't look like they have updated their map, but if that is the case I guess they have well and truly escaped from London..

It is quite scary the number of established firms that have gone bankrupt in recent months. A few big cycle retailers have gone under in recent months.

Does anyone have info on their trading status?

It was many, many years ago.. But I rocked up in Christchurch with my tickets but less than a years experience. I got a job with a small firm (treetech was only 3 guys then) but left pretty quickly as they wanted someone who knew what they were doing. I got another job the next day with city care and had a great 6 months working for them. I still regret returning to the UK.

As mark said. Why would you think that?
Maybe I am synical but it reads like something an Internet marketing company would write to push traffic to a Web site. It is from a new user. I would be amazed if it was cheaper to ship goods from the UK to the states and I am not sure I have ever seen a generic "discount code" for any arb supplier.

Ash tree removal - risk of ground heave?
in Homeowners Tree Advice Forum

typo
I agree with Jon that it is a complex issue, but this is classic blame the tree first. I am not an engineer but land slipping down the slope is far more likely to be the cause of the subsidence IMO.
Have they provided crack monitoring and root id from underneath the conservatory?
I would be surprised if the tree has caused the subsidence and very surprised if removing it would cause heave. Plus it is an ash tree that is quite likely to die from ADB in the next few years so you are probably going to have to remove it and cope with any ground movement.
There is no cost effective method of preventing any potential heave and you would just repair the damage, so I would just crack on and remove the tree. Having insurance would be prudent but I don't think there is a benefit of paying for consultants who could tell you if the risk is high or low.
