I know, I’m not without blame, could/should have done that.
I very rarely go and look at grinding jobs, more often than not I just ask about access over the phone and get a couple of pictures sent with something for scale against the stump

Dave . Don't you think 5.56 ( .223 ) is a bit too much for close quarter stuff . If it was something bigger but less powerful it would not have gone through the legitimate target , then a door and then into the unfortunate ( collateral ) innocent guy hiding behind the door ?
IMO How frangible the round is is more important really.

Maybe he just needs a bit more time to back his claims up, you wouldn’t go off all guns blazing without knowing you are right, not unless you want to known on Arbtalk as “Simon the Shit Stirrer”.
oh , he's not going to take that well

I believe the waste wood market is changing.
Some firms are paying for rubbish wood as chippable biomass.
everything i bring back to the yard has value. odd length logs, stump cuts and chogs goes for arb waste timber which we are paid for by the artic load. All softwood 2.5m in length and up to 1.2m diameter goes for chip by the artic load. Hardwood cord upto 400mm diameter goes to a couple of firewood dealers, they either buy it by the artic load or i sell smaller loads delivered with tractor and trailer. Oversize hardwoods go to a couple of guys who firewood it for their own use, again sold and delivered by the tractor and trailer. Chip goes out by the artic load. il even mix stump grindings in with older chip to make a nice mulch for people who want it for flower beds which i sell by truck or tractor and trailer loads upto 35 cubic metres.
the only thing that doesn’t have value to me is hedge clippings or rake up

i bought a pipe swager and pipe and common fittings a couple of years back now, great investment and such a time saver. plus the cost of pipes (obviously excluding the setup costs) is phenomenally cheap, for example a 1m hose with a fitting on each end costs me about £7

Anyway ended up getting €2380 for that waste wood that they chipped up.
Which is nice.nice touch that.
im not big into the timber and chip sales but i reckon that i probably make 20k a year out of timber and chip out of my yard which covers my yard rent then gives me a bit of walking around money from time to time

Just run a mulcher through it and throw a bit of grass seed down at that point, it’ll be a flat field within a fortnight.
amazing what you can hide with a couple of passes with the mulcher

Nothing of much interest over the last couple of weeks, i’ve been doing lots of development site surveys and the guys have been working on a couple of tree safety contracts for local councils.
I cut an access through a hedge with ecologist supervision then made some log/habitat stacks on another development site down in dorset to satisfy an ecology condition. took a couple of knackered beech out with the roto on another site as well.
i suppose variety is the spice of life

fair enough. Ive got an idea of what id charge and reckon I could fell it for the same sort of money as it would cost to prune it

he made a nice job on that hedge mick.
any ideas what sort of money he had on it?
I've turned up to price a few jobs like that and ended up convincing them to fell instead

There is this and maybe a trailer or two more to add to that pile , how long with a cone splitter on a three tone digger to break those logs in to two and three pieces for the processor ? I recon there will be about 25-30 ton.
I can get a digger and splitter for €400 a day but if it’s not going to even touch that pile it’s won’t be worth it.. just want to see how that goes and works out for the processor.I had a a cone splitter on my 7 tonne machine and it was hopeless, sold it and bought a westtech cracker instead.
Woodcracker L | WESTTECH .:. Woodcracker
WWW.WESTTECH.ATyou could run it off a spool on your tractor and feed it with the crane on the trailer all from the comfort of the cab.
mines actually now bolted to the side of my heizohack

Been taking a conifer hedge out this week. 180 cube of chip and about 20 tonne of timber. ran over the site with the mulcher today to sort out the rake up. fitted in a couple of council jobs and a separate little chipping job with the heizohack as well

Bought a little 6550 valtra to run alongside my T234 and N174.
bought it from wilson’s with a little crane trailer as well. fifth tractor i’ve had off wilson’s over the years and fantastic service as ever.
perfect little tractor for sneaking into places that are a bit tight for the newer valtras and a handy little thing to have onsite with the mulcher on the back.
