  1. As i have "custom" made hedge of mostly black locust, with lots of 6-12mm hedge- shrub branches. And black locust is harder wood. I imagine i will have better run at speed one or two. In terms of battery, i wish i had smaller one. 5Ah will be hard to drain.
  2. Went ahead and bought Makita UH006GZ, since i already had batteries (5Ah) and charger. Applied for free battery. My other option which i passed was Stihl HSA 60 with battery and charger for less money than Makita solo tool. HSA 60 felt solidly made and has good balance as well. But i had to pick one. Makita hedge trimmer feels well balanced when holding it. Has 3 speeds. Runs smooth on empty. Probably will be using it on speed 1 or 2. Thanks everyone.
  3. Everything that has cutting chain is easier to keep in sharp cutting condition. Hedge blades could be inconvinient to clean, lubricate and sharpen on regular basis (and it takes more skill). I limit number of tools i use in one day of work. Bring only the tools i will be using the most.
  4. What i will be cutting on regular basis are 6-12mm hedge branches, some 15mm. Larger ones i individualy cut with battery secateurs or loppers. Now i can get light and small hedge trimmer to do hedge trimming on smaller stuff and do the rest one by one. The other way is to buy serious hedge trimmer and have less work to do indivisually. The more serious hedge teimmer is, the more wweght is to carry around. And than i have to decide on budget too. I can not see, if throwing more money at equipment now will bring marginal or big enough benefit. This is where i don't have enough experience to foresee. But when the hedge is done it will really looks nice ).
  5. Thanks. I really liked how nimble and light was my old hedge trimmer. Even though it lacked in capacity to cut thicker branches. Than i would have plenty of work where stihl 140 r would be useful. I wonder if makita uh006 is on par with srihl 140r. If hedge trimmers were not so bulky it would almost be a case to buy two. One small and one large. Plenty of models available on the market.
  6. Hard work tasks i tend to use stihl asa20 cordless secateurs, stihl gta26 cordless chainsaw pruner and loppers. Rest i try to use hedge trimmer. Hedge trimmer design is not really for hard tasks (thick branches). But we are testing the equipment limits all the time.
  7. Thanks. Battery converters if you can find one work on simpler models. Once it gets to brushless and more electronics, they often are not usable. Chainsaws, i go all petrol. Had a cordless one, not comparable ). Many will disagree. But a hedge trimmer, being so often close to the breathing area, i find nicer to use battery operated. Although i never tried petrol one. I held petrol one in my hand, but it being considerable weight, would keep it and fumes again close to the body while operating.
  8. Hello, Bought a battery (18v) no name hedge trimmer about 5 years ago (3/4 inch tooth spacing. Used it on bramble, some really thick ones for many hours. And lots of managing thin wild overgrowth around fences ... (cuttingvthin branches). Used it in a process of clearing the land, where it could manage the branch thickness. I am fully aware that it is the border line of what it was designed for. But it stood its ground. Today it broke. Upon dissasemby found pieces of needle bearing in gear housing. No idea where that bearing was originally. Took it to pieces and binned it, since this is one off equipment, with no spare parts available. Blades were surprisingly well made, kept an edge really well. Gears to my surprise were in good shape too. Probably got twice the money worth what i paid for from this trimmer useful life. Not complaining there. Same model is not available any more. I also have cordless secuteurs (stihl asa20) and loppers to aid trimming/reduction hedge work. What is life expectancy of hedge trimmer ? (Years, working hours etc.) Do you have any suggestions to buy a new one (have makita and einhell 18v batteries) ? Stihl cordless hedge trimmer kind of ticks all the boxes, but i am not eager to jump into another battery platform.
  9. Stihl gta26 does wonders for light pruning. 2 batteries, if there is substantial work to be done It is quite a step up from silky. I dont see a point in larger saw if all pruning is up to like 5 inches.
  10. Srihl ms 162 Because ot has inboard clutch Parts are available Low vibrarions Good balance Clutch side exhaust on Echo 2511 WES. Not sure if that is good idea.
  11. I am looking to buy ms212. Coming from ms170, would i see enough power increase ?
  12. I don't have any husquarnas but It seems 560xp - auto tune I.e. 460 tune it yourself, if need be Some more experienced members may comment on reliability of either, and dependence on dealer with software if need be
  13. Does any cordless chainsaw has clutch other than husqvarna 542i ?
  14. Yes. Petrol clutch disengages around 3000rpm.
  15. From my perspective, cordless have no clutch, and if cought in safety chaps, it wont stop in a same way as it slows down.
  16. I see cordless saws with 50cc power equivalent way more dangerous than petrol.
  17. If price was the same, which one would you recommend ? Stihl parts are more available in general. Husqvarna parts can be found too.
  18. Ms251 is a very good saw. If loyal to Stihl, step down would be ms231, ms201cm, ms212, and ms182. Step up would be ms261. Good luck.
  19. My first saw was 40v cordless. Used it intensively for 2 years until it broke down. Very good to learn with. As chain speed is not as high as on petrol ones. Torque was sufficient though. I took it apart, and i knew i will bin it afterwards. Some piece of electric motor broke. I have never seen a tool that would be more difficult to put back together. And i consider myself having decent repair skills.
  20. Gta 26 is so conveniently light, that i would never use any other similar tool. Have 2 batteries just in case. But usually get through work with 1.
  21. Hello, If i was to buy a new chainsaw, which of the 2 would you suggest, Husqvarna 440 mark ii or Stihl ms212 ? Both have nice and low anti vibe specs. And Stihl is £50 cheaper. Felling, clearing. Trees 15-30cm, often hardwood.
