Power steering issue on old school loader??

I see what you mean also found another PDF with a breakdown..

 

As for fluid & filter it's running straight from the hydraulic tank and shares the same return / filter setup as the loader hydraulics so can only assume it's ok in that sense.

 

If ram swap doesn't bring anything to light it's operation time 🔨

when the oil is cold it is thicker or more viscous and when heated the oil is more vicious or thinner. but you don't say how old the oil is, as has been said already the oil may deteriorate due to age, the additives breakdown, and water or air may enter the system causing cavitation.

 

the thin oil may be contaminated with rust or break rubbings from the back axle if the oil is shared. another cause could be a clogged filter as some filters are very fin down to a few microns

I should have said that the oils not that old hence my dismissing of it sorry, it's under 12months although I can't remember exactly..

 

It's only used for the loader lifting and steering system, good caps and stored under cover so I'm pretty confident it's not the culprit.

have you done a bypass test on the cylinder before you condemn the orbital valve if you take off one end of the hoses on the cylinder in a mid position and turn the steering check how much oil flow is coming out the port on the cylinder it will work better if the wheels are in a rut

Ram swap / test confirmed it's the steering valve..

 

I.e swap pipes and works lovely in opposite direction to normal so out ruled ram and pipework.

 

Pulled the valve to bits yesterday and other than a dust seal has no replaceable seals 😪

 

Couldn't see anything wrong as such just machined faces, can only assume it's worn I'm afraid and needs a replacement.
