Mini Digger Final Drive ratio's

Hello Gentlemen

 

Some of the mini excavator models I'm considering have significantly different walk speeds on "high", and in fact vary by 30%.

 

My machine used as a "mobile hydraulic pump" for fencing will do a lot of walking and it would be nice to be able to get a slow one going a little faster, if I could match the speed of the Cat 301.8C (5.6km/hr) with a Yanmar or Komatsu I'd be happy, is this possible and practical??

 

Can a final drive planetary be changed out with a different ratio - would it be cost effective or just horrific??

The answer to your question I do not know, holding the levers for a long time whilst tracking is a tedious bore. Some minis I've driven tend to "scrat" a lot at higher speeds.

I would of thought increasing fluid flow would be an easier solution. Would you be able to upgrade either undercarriage or hydraulic components within a makers range.

We up rated a pump on our old case tractor it fit the same location as a straight swop.

Many engines are the same just a different fuel pump kinda principle.

it aint that easy to change the gearing on a final drive to a different ratio also be very cautious about increasing the flow from a swash pump this seriously reduces their lifespan best to leave alone

what about a tracked dumper with a power pack on it

I've been down the tracked dumper line but they have very high running gear costs and are difficult to resell if they are converted. Guess I might have to live with slow.

I would have a word with a good local hydraulic supplier,my local one redesigned my chippers hydraulic circuit to my specs and supplied the components a lot cheaper than i thought they would be.
