They do look like they've had a good rampage through the plants. Hard to beat the natural filtration you have there. I didn't have the possibility of doing that, so just have a huge pressurised filter with a UV, which is sat below the pond level. All hidden though.

I've been building mine over the last few weeks, thought it was big until I've just looked at all the other pics. All hand dug over Three days, 14ft x 7ft. Just come in now as its getting dark. I usually have a couple of hours each night but it will take a while to get established.ImageUploadedByArbtalk1468874311.709433.jpg.a2831613f1e383bb9d1ed85687a1999c.jpg

Very nice. The plants look like they are quite established, especially the lily. Hat off to you for the hand dig too. Couldn't face that these days - too used to machines!

That's a very good base for the plants to grow in and around. I'm sure that when the plants have matured you will be treated to a variety of wildlife.

Like the waterfall, the sound and movement they add is definitely worth the effort if you have the chance to incorporate one. It's harder to do than people realise, but there is something about the sound of running water that makes it worthwhile.

I know what you're going through digging by hand. My ponds are at the back of

the house and access is difficult for a machine. With the three ponds and digging the foundations for the walls I must have hand dug at least 40 tonnes of earth over a few years. I was obviously younger, fitter and keener 25 years ago.

The waterfall was a must this time, I have had Three previous small ponds & the flow was disappointing. I have gone for a pressurised filter this time which aren't cheap but found one for sale that hadn't been out the box. Looking forward to restocking the pond.
