Help please - is this canker?

Hello, I'm hoping an expert eye can tell what is wrong with my apple tree? I'm worried that it is the start of canker.

 

It is a Spartan apple tree on M26 rootstock planted in November 2015 as a 2-year old bare root plant. On three of the branches, the bark appears to have split and looks papery. Is this the first sign of canker? There is also an area that looks more like pictures I've seen of canker, where the branch has a depression.

 

Please can anyone identify the problem and suggest advice? I've already pruned out some of the affected branches.

 

Hopefully, I'm just being paranoid and there's nothing wrong! It's been quite wet here (Northants), so is it possible the the bark has split due to rapid growth?

Not sure if canker but cut out any wood/bark and treat with "heal and seal". Be careful that you consider bio security so as not to transfer anything to other trees, disinfect your knife and ideally burn clipping. I have a tree that is rotted through 50% of the main trunk and it's hanging in there thx to heal and seal! Cdo

Thanks Commando, I will cut off/out the bits and get some heal and seal.

Thanks Ed, shame that it looks like it's likely to be permanent with this tree. I will take out the remaining branches that look like this, being careful to clean the tools. Hopefully it won't get any worse and not spread to other trees.

 

I've read in other places that current advice is not to 'seal' wounds but let the tree heal itself, so I think I'll do that.

Prune now to avoid the risk of silver leaf.

 

 

I thought silver leaf only affected stone fruit.
