Transit All wheel drive.

I've been offered a good deal on a brand new transit all wheel drive, with a tip master body.

It looks great, the idea of all wheel drive definitely has it pros, especially when working on building sites etc.

However the rear axle is only a single wheel axel as opposed to the regular transit tipper and its twin wheels per axel.

What are the advantages of twin wheels on the rear, are there any obvious concerns on running a van with single rear wheels?

load distribution over a larger surface area on a twin wheel axel is the main thing that I can think of. Will this seriously limit my load carrying capabilities having single wheels? Does anyone else run a van with single wheels on the rear axel?

Cheers

Don't worry about the single wheel, instead call the dealer and ask him how much payload you will have and watch him squirm:laugh1:

Standard tipper has about 1200kg,= of payload, add 2 blokes at about 100 kg each and you are down to 1000 ish add a chip box, a few saws, some ropes, a tank of fuel and the weight of the front drivetrain and your payload could be as low as 500kg:blushing:

3500kg MAM vehicles don't work well and as AWD are a disaster:thumbdown:

Thanks for the reply's, I'm well aware of the actual working payload being non existent. Hypothetically if you did fill up a normal transit sized chipbox, on a van with upgraded leafsprings, the twin wheels help distribute the weight and they do cope with the (potentially overweight) load.

I guess the single wheels would not cope.

I'm forgetting about the idea now, the nice price tag was tempting!
