When has a climbing rope had it?

Upon inspecting my rope it looks as though I may have spiked it... Any experienced guys on here tell if I should or shouldn't be using it?!

Regardless of what anyone else on here says, if it's concerning you enough to ask then it's probably best to retire it IMO.

 

Or at least cut the damaged part off, and have a slightly shorter rope or a source of lanyards for a while!

It's the top end of a 50m rope, should perhaps send it off to be cut then spliced?

Tbh i've seen ropes in far worse a state. When i feel it, it feels firm enough in that area...

If it's the end of a long rope I'd cut the end off and burn the end with a lighter to seal it. If you wrap some electrical tape around it and cut in the middle of the tape then seal it it holds better IMO. If you want a spliced eye then you'll have to send it off unless you can splice it yourself and get it lowlered but that seams like more hassle than getting used to tying a termination knot. :-)

As said, if it was me I'd cut the damaged part off and still have a 45m or so rope, and just tie a knot to terminate.

You can cut it yourself - my method is wrap where you're going to cut in insulation tape, heat an old Stanley knife to red hot with a blowtorch and go straight through, seals it as you go then

You can use an anchor hitch hitch with a hitch climber. I do :-).
