Chainsaws in the rainforest

Funny how the treatment of the Brimmon oak, a single and very fine tree in Mid Wales, the survival of which has, for the time being, been assured, gets so much more attention here than a campaign to highlight the direct support given by a company, who's products many of us use on a daily basis, to the KTS Group of timber and palm oil companies that have caused the devastation of thousands of hectares of forest and, no doubt, Millions of trees, besides running roughshod across the land of indigenous peoples.

No-one's asking for a boycott of Stihl saws- just a cessation of their active support for illegal felling.

It'll cost you nothing to sign a petition. It may make no difference. But it might reduce the guilt a touch as you crunch down on another palm-oil filled Jaffa cake!

Well, electrictree, you may want to jump to conclusions as is your want, however have you considered an impact on the lack of response may have been your poorly constructed opening post?

You put up your post at roughly 10:00am where most people are outdoors working, so probably only have access to their mobile phones - then you write two words and post links requiring internet connection. Are you really surprised that there was little immediate response?

Now, suffice to say, you appear to be slinging the mud somewhat, broadly accusing the members of this forum of being in cahoots or not caring about this issue, just because you presume that many folk on here are also Stihl users.

I applaud the cause, and to some degree your passion for it - but perhaps you need to put a little more thought into your call for arms, and then less effort in belittling the people you are trying to get a response from.

Get that right, and then you may get a better reaction.

If Stihl have a partnership with a company who have been proven to be responsible with illegal logging then I don't think it is unreasonable to petition Stihl to sever direct ties with that company. This would come under Stihl's corporate social and environmental responsibility.

However there are 2 issues with the links provided. One is that they are poorly formed, heavily opinionated and to be frank amateurish. The second and most important is that they lack proof, they just state reports have been submitted, in the process of taking legal action, etc.

I am not saying that their/your claims are not true, but you need more than just asking people to "take your word for it"
