Hi guys,

New to this forum (30 minutes ago) and thought I'd try my luck with a quick question.

I'm an Aussie guy who's currently living and climbing in Switzerland and although I've been in the industry for some time, have yet to 'qualify' as an arborist. My plan was to do an apprenticeship here but my German is no where near good enough to do the swiss course. Have looked online and seems there are options for online courses in the U.K. One particular mob offer a cert 2 in arboriculture and the next jump is a full diploma. I think in Australia, most companies insist on a minimum of level 3 to land a decent job. The fellow told me he thought the British level 2 was equivalent to the aussie level 3???

Sounds confusing right,

I guess my question would be, does anyone have any knowledge on firstly what course I'd need to become a qualified arborist in the UK? And if so, is it accepted for the better or worse in Australia?

Hope someone can help

Cheers guys

Aussie Mick

I knoiw very little about this, and in Scotland the quaifications framework is different form England, but it occurs to me that you should look into an international qualification through the ISA that will be recognised by a number of countries. Not that I much rate the ISA but they are immersed in the concept of the Arborist and seem to pay little attention to distinctions between tree work and consulting. Unfortunately, being american the ISA uses I for International the way it uses World in World Series Baseball. But there may be some recognition of teh certification in Oz, try the Oz AA Chapter.

Yeah see what you are saying, who is to say that their L1, L2, and L3 aren't equivalent to our entry levels, making their L4 like a UK L1. It would make sense if they all just tied in together.

Our system doesn't even tie in properly with the European framework. :confused1:

Or the scottish framework... what chance do we have?
