Just read that the swedes have been looking at wood properties using CT scanners since the early 90's, which is possibly where Duncan got the idea of using one to look at his fork unions.

 

Perhaps there's a commercial market right there?

I wasn't aware ct scanning had even been used in the wider environment. However, considering the cost of the picus, I'd dread to imagine what a truly portable set up for that would be, or which clients would be prepared to pay for it.

Interesting article, David. I had heard about using heat, though never actually 'seen' it. Looks very hi-tech.
