Genetically engineered trees

Just had a quick look, New Zealand would be stupid to grow G E forestry, but it's a country that is politically silly enough.

They have the advantage of being the youngest country in the world for getting western civilisation. Yet they have made many errors from a commercial bias, to their beautiful country. Overstocking livestock for maximum return$, fertiliser and other agricultural practises liberally blathered on the land and in to the water cycle, rivers polluted etc.

Trees grow there at twice the rate of most places in the temperate regions. It wouldn't surprise me if they want more!

Apologies for the rant, but I've seen the abuse firsthand.

New Zealand pure it definitely is not. Commercialism at its finest, now seen with the removal of tree protection in order to make land development easier. We already had GE corn so forestry is conceivably not that much more of a step. I seem to remember hearing something about it in the not to distant past but that could be my half pie memory.
