I've found this fungus in the woods yesterday, at the stem base of an old scotch pine. I've never seen anything like this before, I don't even know if it's parasitic, saprophitic or mycorrhizal.

Any suggestions?

Thanks a lot,

Tom

I’ve never seen this one in ‘real life’ – that was a lucky find! We did a picus on a pine at Westonbirt which was supposed to be host to this little fella. Pretty FUBAR’d from what I remember. Good find!

Some really good shots there, guys.

I wonder what joe public thought of you lot rolling about in the undergrowth with your flashes going.

I can asure you that no brambles were hurt in the filming of this fungi !

If even my girlfriend thinks I'm crazy, I don't wanna know what joe public thinks

I've not seen this in real life either and had imagined it to be something you'd find mostly in pine woodland, but David's one looks like an isolated pine in the middle of a deciduous wood? Are there many other potential hosts in the vicinity? Or did that spore just get lucky?
