Recreation climbers in North West

Hi there,

are there any people in the Lancashire/Cheshire are, or anywhere close by who undertake recreational climbing? I would love to get some practice in and learn new skills with experienced climbers, both for pleasure and to get up to good standard before doing CS38.

Come to one of the north west get togethers. We've had a couple at Dean's wood in Brighouse and one in Hurst Green, near Clitheroe.

 

What do you lads say to an autumn get-together then? I could see about that camping barn again - good pubs and grub nearby, wood burner and basic camping kitchen.

orry to interrupt this thread but i do not know how to start a new one. i come to you knowledgeable people to ask for career advice. I am a girl of 22, i have my cs30&31 which i enjoyed the challenge of getting since then i have worked as a groundsman for a self employed guy. i didnt really enjoy this at all, im not made to drag brash make a pile of it and then feed it into a chipper. Although i am supposedly competent with a chainsaw i would like to find a job that involves climbing. (without the chainsaw part) it doesnt have to be trees although i would prefere it. i know this is very far fetched but before i give up my tarzan life thought i should ask the people. please dont be soft with me just need the simple reality. thanks

I don't know of many careers where you can get paid for climbing trees unless you are managing them, which usually involves chainsaw use.

Wildlife surveying is a posibillity, usually tree inspections for bats. This is something I do but I must admit, is is not an easy route to follow. You would be expected to hold a Natural England Bat License before you can consider surveying in roosts, a relevant degree in Ecology, or full membership of a professional institute is also expected before paid work comes knocking on your door and even then it is very competitive.
