Many thanks for taking the time to reply I will look at the link later as mobile signal is poor here everything takes ages to load up!

It looks as if it is killing them its on the small trees little sapling that have just grown themselves from dropped seeds.

yes its a bad infestation on those seedlings - photosynthesis issue

Out of interest, I have a Sycamore that is effected by the same disease.

What actually causes the spots to form?

Does it indicate other problems are likely to be developing?

 

I can confirm the lack of air pollution, we have lichen growing every where up here, even in the middle of the public road....

Fungal spore that over winter on the fallen leaves, which then drift to new host.

 

I don't think it necessarily requires a stressed host to latch on to.

Thank you David,

 

The spores most likely being killed off by a pollutant, sulphur dioxide.

 

Preseumably these spores are also present in the soil, as the winds around here mean we never see the fallen leaves...
