what sort of plane was it andy?

The base i worked on at used to fly wellingtons before they handed it over to the yanks for there fighter group.

one of the wellingtons collided with a german ju88 on a recon mission .

An evacue who lived in my old neighbors house was caught with a few thousand rounds of german ammo in his shead from the reckage by the home guard and got in serious trouble!

The plane was a B-17 of the 385th Heavy Bomb Group, based at Gt Ashfield base in Suffolk. The base was built specifically for the USAAF around about 1943 I think. I remember finding some .50cal shells when we were kids, but Dad took them away from us, cant think why?!? My brother has the details of the pilot and crew, and the name of the plane somewhere, will have to find out more, but I believe they all survived and made it back to base.
