I have looked relentlessly for over a year, expanded the area, knocked on doors, even offered 1 bloke twice the amount what he paid for a bit of land that's sat doing nothing and no joy its like people dont want the money in their pocket?

 

Same here for 2 years but persistance worked.

Mind, the old bitch we bought it off is now a bitch of a neighbour.

At the last minute tried to jack the price up to 150euros per m2 because she heard that a plot nearby sold for that.

True but as a building plot.

Ours is agricultural.

You could be right the land has doubled in value he may have parked some money there for retirement. How much would he get in the bank. My isa just dropped to 0.8 % if your skint money in the pocket is great but if your getting on and have worked hard for 30 years plus it's time to invest and slow down.
