Sudden dieback of Rowan???

Any ideas people?????

 

An aparent healthy Rowan that has lost 40% of its folliage in the last 4 weeks??

I thought that Rowans were pretty much bomb proof!!

Are we talking leaf drop or something eating them?

The leaves are all brown and dropping, the berries too are small and shrivelled, to me it looks as if its just damn thirsty, but would that be so obviuos in only 4 weeks or so (well that's what my client has told me)

Same here in Plymouth - but to the public amenity trees between dual carriageways where the council also mow. Priavte ones seem fine... might take some photees...

we have also been noticing a decline in sorbus aucuparia in the past few months getting hit by target cankers ie nectria sp also the obvious bacterial tumours

how old are they? there is evidence that rowan planted in small roadside verges decline quite rapidly once they reach about 10 years old, the evidence points to the culprit being tarmac causing a build up of heat underground in the summer, this coupled with drought problems could be the cause. Any chance of pics was also thinking Fire blight? causes leaves and flowers to whither and die the ends of the twigs also begin to hook round and look scorched.
