This tree came down in the wood a few months ago. I'm about to log it for firewood but I don't know what it is. If anyone knows that would be useful - always good to know what I'm burning for the next time :thumbup1:

Those rings indicate softwood imo, larch?

 

I don't think its softwood, its very heavy. At first I thought it was oak but the barks not right and it doesn't have an oaky smell

Actually on second thoughts and closer look at bark elm?

 

That was my second thought timbernut - although I gave a couple of lengths to a mate and he says it split no problem.It was also in good health, I think, un tip the wind brought it down. Quite a decent size for an elm isn't it?

Does occasionally split easily and can grow quite quick, and by the look of those rings it did! What DBH is it?

 

I'll have to measure for you but my guess would be 12 inches
