Milling advice

So I will be buying a chainsaw mill soon and want to know a few things before hand.

 

Where do you get your pieces of wood to separate the planks for drying? Are they called stickers?

What do you coat the ends of the planks with to stop splitting?

One last one which I asked at Alaskan Mills UK but Rob is/was on holiday and I just want to make sure: Can you fit a 48" mill on a 42" bar without any problems? I assume the bar attachment bits can be adjusted. I only have a 660 now but don't want to have to buy another mill when I get a bigger saw.

In order:

 

The separating sticks are called stickers - I make my stickers from old pallets. I don't dismantle them, just cut down the line of slats at each end and rip to about 1" width.

 

You can fit any mill to any saw, you just end up with more overhang.

I mainly use PVA, but any old paint, wax will do the job

I usually don't bother, but when I do I agree, anything to slow down the drying so old paint usually gets used.
