Cordless Multi Tool

Thinking if getting one as I've three specific jobs lined up for such a tool.

 

Severing and old 1.5" steel pipe at ground level; adjacent to paved path and garden wall. Already tried hacksaw and gone through a blade without even scratching surface.

 

Removal of rusted bolts on an old wrought iron bench I was given. Just a case of renewing old for new slats & bolts.

 

Sanding off paint from skirting behind fixed pipework.

 

And maybe a fourth, of changing locks on a friend's industrial units. Where tenants did a moonlight flit and didn't return the keys.

 

Anyone got one or have used such and have views or advice. I'm not after ones costing hundreds, as I've already bought and been given Dewalt drills and although the drills are ace, the batteries don't last much longer than 18mhs. So what's the point in going for the expensive option?

Titan TTP448HTL 10.8V, 1x 1.3Ah Li-Ion battery, 30min. charging, at £60

 

Erbauer ERI616HTL 18V, 2x 2.0Ah Li-Ion batteries, 1hr. charging, at £100

The blades on multitools are not cheap - but they are incredibly handy for many things.

 

In the case of your pipe above - I'd go to the angle grinder - if a hacksaw blade just went blunt, you'll spend a fortune on multitool blades since you've a much shorter blade length.

PS I suspect either of those choices will be fine - although I've not had good experience of some other titan gear - I have an SDS to go back for the second time. First one had no percussion power, the clutch on this one gave up on Saturday, and locked out the SDS chuck to boot - so my holesaw arbour is stuck in it. Meh.

I have an original fein corded multitool and wouldnt be without it. The blades are getting cheaper by the day, but the quality isnt always there with them. I wouldnt use the multitool on steel though, i dont think theyre really cut out for that type of work, so i would use an angle grinder for that. If your just after a cheapo version, machine mart do a clarke version. But personally i would pay a bit more and get a decent one.
