Family apple trees.

Grafted these in the spring with three varieties each.

Boss is now off to sell them.

How much and how did you get fruit on them?

Guessing you had flower buds on the scion.

He reckons he sells them trade at £8.

Probably fruit because wood is from two year old trees.

Would that make them self fertile, as its 3 seperate trees sharing a central stem or does it not work like that. Assuming they aren't self fertile varieties used anyway. Thanks

I suppose it would work both ways. Plenty of them have fruit so something is working right.

You grafted two year old wood onto them? Can't say I've heard of that before. Guess it's worked though as fruit on them is going to help them sell. £8 sounds cheap, I want more than that.

Sorry mate , I must have confused you.

Wood is taken from two year old trees on M27 , which flower freely.

They are cut back for bush and we use the leads ,which is how we get fruit.

Never heard of that trick, I am going to have to try it.

I grow them for planting myself rather than selling them. I make a lot of apple juice.

 

edit: in fact I make a lot of bloody good apple juice. Current holder of best juice in show trophy at Bath and West.
