My only small question is what oiler drive gear to use - but until proven wrong I believe the stock one will do, as I never have seen any indications that it doesn't.

Unusual for a 40cc saw - drive splines on the outside.

Yes, and it shares that design with the MS241 (sadly).

It isn't a neat design on a small saw, as it pyshers the bar further out to the side, which upsets the handling of the saw.

A simolar design is the reason I never use my 5100S in the woods - the handling isn't anywhere near as good as with the 346xp, for limbing etc.

Even the 35cc is like that., it's only the 109 and 115 with the outboard clutch

Maybe by now, but there used to be many more. It is really sad that Dolmar have followed Stihl into the inboard clutch trap...:001_rolleyes:

Pros and cons of inboard clutches? I thought inboards had shorter crank and repositioned oil pump so the ultimate position of the bar mounts were no further out anyway? Inboards stay much cleaner and you can change the sprocket far more easily...

Just been checking the clutch drum from a ps-5105 and it's the same measurements internal and external the legs are exactly the same depth so thankyou Saw Troll you where right everything is go now sprocket rim on the ps-420 now :thumbup:

I've ran many saws with the spur sprocket without any issues

In fact my 281xp has a spur sprocket.

Andrew give me a ring tomorrow. I've a new phone and your number didn't come over.

Of course it works, but it is much rougher on the chain, not as smooth as a rim setup - and the cost of replacement is of course higher for a drum with a spur, than for just a rim. The way a spur wears also has more impact on function than with a rim.

Flexibility also is better with a rim setup, as you can use different rims on the same drum.
