sorry sam, ive been fencing for years, it was my trade before getting into trees and im still fencing now but ive never heard that:confused1:im not saying youre wrong but i wouldnt agree. have you ever tried bending those pins? it isnt easy and not sure even possible!:001_smile:

will try and post some pics of bent pins where the top pin has been turned!

Cant see that it makes any differance which way up either hinge is (unless they are both upside down) It will bend if there is enough force on it. In fact I would say the highest point of force is at the top of the top hinge when someone is swinging on it, so this is where it should be attached to the post.

are we talking pins on plates screwed to posts or pins running right through the posts? i could understand them bending at the plate or even snapping but for the lug or pin to go on a solid one through the post seems very unusual. looking forward to the pics.

Maybe because i hit a gate with the landy tho :blushing:
