Does This Sound Like Bad Coil?

TD40. New crank seal. Pressure / Vac tested. Carb cleaned. New plug. Run it flat out for a minute and it dies as in vid, will start more or less immediately on idle - wide open again and it will die. All running in vid is at wide open throttle.

ps Has external type electronic ignition module - changed that for new atom type one - no difference.

I would agree with Barrie, sounds like fuel starvation so tank breather or soft fuel line are typical culprits - as well as the fuel line being holed!

Try it again with the fuel cap loose to test the breather idea.

I have had a couple of these have dodgy coils so it can be a fault but both have had no spark at all - a slight whimper of one if you pull the plug for the first pull then nothing.

Good luck - think the smart money is on fuel and hopefully less expensive:thumbup:

Couple of things. Its a bowl carb, no fuel filter just hole in bottom of tank down through pipe to carb- so filter is inside filler hole. Cap doesn't appear to have any visible breather hole at all but it does have one of those disc pads on the inside.I suppose a bowl carb fuel tank will need to breathe too?? Thanks Harry, Barry and Spud.

I have a TD40 with a metal fuel tank on a Tondu brushcutter.

Your problem sounds just like mine does when the tank is running out of fuel.

It often gets crap in the fuel line and in the float bowl which needs cleaning out.

Another thing to check is dirt in the fuel tap which very few machines have these days.

Fuel starvation it was! Cheers chaps, spot on diagnosis, really appreciate your help. Was convinced ignition was playing up. Saved a few bob. Had carb off again thought maybe it was the float bowl pin dragging a bit so emeryd that then took that fuel tap off. See pic for the issue. Runs like a gentle giant , no screaming and masses of torque. Becoming a kawasaki fan.
