Stihl MS 066

Hi all,

I've been contemplating a bigger saw for a few upcoming jobs, I could do with a second for going through big stems anyway. I've currently got an MS460 (18" occasionally, 25" usually, 30" on the odd occasion), and my next saw is a ms241 (16"), I want to fill that gap with a MS 361 or 362 at some point, but am looking at the other end, I've been offered an old MS 066 in good nick for less the £500, what's peoples opinion of it compared with the newer MS660 or the current MS 661?

PS, I'm a Stihl boy, and will probably stay that way, I've not found a husky I like yet.

The 066/MS660 has gone through many transformations - one thing to check is that the saw has the "Poly Flywheel" - that's the plastic one as this would make it a much later 066 with the beefed up crank and retarded ignition for easier starting!

The earlier ones had fully aluminium flywheels and a thinner crank and in some occasions, spun the end of the crank off!

The older 066s were however supposed to have more aggressive port timing!

As a 241 owner, I would personally get a 261 CM instead. It is strong enough to where you don't want for a 362 if you already have a 460, and light enough to do the job a 241 can.

If the 066 is in great shape, that's not a bad price.

What you really want is of course a 550xp, to avoid the extra bulk, weight etc of the MS261. :001_smile:
