Milled this big beech last week

Some lovely grain / pattern in these boards. Where would you guys market these and what would you charge. They are 24" wide x 60mm thick and 12 ft long. Sold two of them locally to a chap making a bar for £300.

Beech is sadly the lowest value of all hardwoods in the UK unless it's quite spectacularly spalted. You did incredibly well to get £150 a board for them green (4 cube a board). I'd personally be selling them off the saw for about £48 a board, kiln dried for no more than about £100.

 

As a point aside, for drying, you want to have at least twice as many stickers, with sticks right on the ends as well. I'd think about getting some weight on the stack as well as beech is prone to movement whilst drying.

how long since these were felled guys? i got some three years old now and think it must be getting pretty ripe?

Forgot to say, scrape your sawdust off as well, as it's a breeding ground for bacteria/fungus.

 

Nice boards Gerbutt - the flaming almost appears spalted.

Yes they're all spalted, it's like the flames have a black outline. I think they'll all look incredible when oiled! I haven't got a clue what they could be worth, the size is about six foot by two foot and two and a half inches thick?
