Is this phytopthora?

For one of my modules for uni I have to find a group of trees local to me and identify problems with them, obviously this has problems with the really tight fork but are the black marks on it indications of phytophora or is it just bacterial wet wood?

A large amount of pathogens produce the dark bleeding spots, such as honey fungus, p. Squamosa, and I've seen it on trees with oyster mushrooms and ganoderma.

yeh I think it is, phytophora kits cost about £8. Looks like a beech? probably phytophora spp. kernovaie or ramorum (wrong spellings). What Uni are you at eslpedo and how are you enjoying it?

I'm at myerscough doing the online course and so far it's been a bit mixed, enjoying the subject but sometimes takes a while to get course notes/answers to things.

Less likely to be a bacterial wetwood,may well be a bacterial canker of which pseudomonas syringae (which most commonly though not exclusively effects horse chestnut) is an example.

Treatment with the use of liquid phosphites both as trunk washes and soil injection has proved to be effective at improving symptoms and overall tree vitality (phosphites trigger the trees own defence systems).

I'm on campus at myerscough. I've just moved on to the BSc from the FdSc, really enjoying it but I am looking forward to getting out there now. How are you guys finding online? I always imagined it would be harder without the immediate support. Are you doing a research project/dissertation elspedo? Good luck guys

In first year at the moment so it's just for arb practises.

 

Ye the lack of support is sometimes infuriating, we have a hand in on Monday and still haven't had this weeks notes and then for some reason we receive the last set of notes on the day we hand it which seems odd.

 

The tutors do seem to reply to emails within a few days though and people are using the bloom site to discuss things so if you need answers can usually get them fairly quickly.
