How much sideways play is too much in a chain I ask because I have just replaced my worn out sthil bar with a Sugihara pro lam bar new chain and new sprocket I have only used the bar for around 8 hours and have flipped it once in that time I have just stripped the saw for its weekly clean and noticed more play in the chain than I would expect on a new bar I have dressed the bar and reassembled the saw and having put a straight edge against a cutter there is a small clearance between the edge and the bar it just seems less than I would expect is there an acceptable amount of play or should I send the bar back

not really compared to my last one that was completely worn out thing is i cant see how after only 8 hours it could be worn it still has paint on the rails i have considered that im just being paranoid due to the last bar been so worn it stopped cutting at all i might have a drive to the dealers this afternoon armed with a straight edge to see how the saws on the shelf compare

Lol don't be sorry it's the first thing I checked it's definitely a 1.6mm chain on a supposed 1.6mm bar I've just had it out back buried in some sycamore right up until it found a nail it was cutting straight am going to borrow a set of calipers to measure chain and grove but am thinking it's going to have to go back to rob d
