hi been laying a hedge with some large holly in it with that has to be pleached and laid trouble ive had with a couple is controlling the weight on the way down as big holly can be fairly brittle can bust off the pleach if comes down to quick was thinking it may be possible to set up a rope on a tree further back and use a Figure of Eight Descender to control the rate the stem come over would this work or can you guys think of another way ?

No reason why a fig 8 won't work assuming the weight you want to control is appropriate. (And you have a good anchor in an appropriate place. There will be other options. Italian hitch on an appropriate karabiner for example. Might be worth thinking about adding the ability to lock of / hold the lower. This could be done with a prussik loop.
