MS200 Exhaust bolts

Chemical metal two 5mm studs into the cylinder and use nuts to hold the exhaust on. Only problem in doing this is if you ever need the exhaust off again you have to remove the fuel tank everytime

Not a fan of chemical metal myself, prefer proper engineering.

 

But there is plenty of room for helicoiling, I have safely taken them out to 6mm threads if needed.

 

If you do need to go to 6mm you have to drill the exhaust and the gasket. Have to use an m6 allen screw as the m6 stihl torx screw wont fit down the exhaust pipe recess.

As Barrie says, there is lots of room for a helicoil to fit and have even fitted a carbide threaded insert in one before where the bolt head had snapped off and drillinng it out wasn't good.

 

Just drill out both holes and then tap and wind in the helicoil. I done correctly, it will give a strong repair.

 

I believe the thread is M5 - 0.8mm so make sure the helicoil kit you use is the right one!
