Cheers Ive got a quote from Coppard's and they seem to know their stuff. They also do MEWP's which may be of interest to you as you are in Kent.

I also tried Savage but they said they don't have the tracked cranes anymore

Might be worth getting a few quotes Jay, we used GGR group earlier this year on an oak removal.

Cheers David I'll have a look at the video. Can you remember what you paid if you don't mind me asking. Coppards want around £850 plus vat and that includes the operator for a day which I didn't think was unreasonable.

Thanks David, good Video by the way. Did he say what the big lump weighed as ideally I want to be able to lift that size chunks but maybe the chestnut is slightly larger in diameter.

Also is that the kind of crane that can 'track along' whilst it holds the piece on the chains?

The heaviest lift for us was just over a ton towards the last couple of picks..

As far as I understand it, lifting that kind of timber on a crane like that requires it to be static and have its out riggers deployed, so not able to track with weight.

Sounds like you've got a bit of a head scratcher to plan out.

Yeah not too bad to plan. Just looking for a machine that we can track along with the timber attached so we can put it into the truck rather than put it on the floor as the access is narrow we can't get the usual timber lorry up the drive. Apparently compards have got a machine that tracks along with upto 1.5 ton on so going to look at that machine as that may fit the bill
