Type C trousers or chaps?

Are they less safe or do they basically off similar levels of protection?

You seem to be a bit confused.

Try breaking it down to 2 separate choices.

Do you want all round (type C) protection or front only (type A) protection ?

Do you want to wear trousers or chaps ?

Chaps are usually called seatless trousers since they were required to be joined together at the front.

I wore Oregon chaps for years but modern trousers are much lighter and easier to work in when not on the saw.

The Husqvarna classic trousers that I linked you to are fine with chainsaw wellies unlike some "climbing" trousers that gather at the ankle.
