Haven't had a full count up but the boiler was around 15k, 6000 litre tank (insulated and covered ourselves) around 1500 and pipe work, meters etc around 6k maybe. Far cheaper than any chip or pellet boiler and not restricted to expensive fuel, don't know about other ares but in Aberdeenshire, dry woodchip is £100 a ton, pellets around £170. Pallets, tree roots and brash etc make excellent and free fuel. Yes it has to be manually loaded each day but the savings more than make up for this. Also I don't know how well the more conplicated chip and pellet boilers will work in 20 years time?

This is my thought, manual loading of waste wood but I go to yard to work every day any way

But, we produce arb tree waste, rubbish round processor and saw dust.

Not wood pellets, I know we will have to put some round chip wood in as well

Well if you want to get RHI from your Glen Farrow boiler then you have just shot yourself in the foot as its not approved for RHI purposes for burning rubbish round processor and sawdust. What it is approved to burn is good quality logs at ridiculously low moisture content just the sort you want to sell to your customers.

This is a little like going into TESCO, loading up your shopping trolley and leaving without going through the checkout - you can do this but you are not allowed to.

The Government have made Laws which require you to pay for your shopping and Government Regulations also apply to the RHI.

What's paying at tesco and putting wood into a burner really got to do with it? Have you a wood kiln and supply logs?

As Renewablejohn said, you can't burn anything you like and recieve RHI payments for it, just like you can't dry fuel yourself to be used as fuel in the boiler then claim the payments.

All this has been covered here before on the Forum.

It will not be long before we fall into line with EU - with annual RHI audits and unannounced spot checks, just like we already recieve from HMRC and H&S.

Do you have a log kiln and have experience from this and what's the problem of drying the wood before it goes in?

I wouldn't need to dry it first but just interested now on that

Yes and Yes.

Of course it is fine to air dry timber before you use it to fuel your kiln, it just can't be dried in the kiln to fuel the kiln.

The Auditers are getting better educated and are quite capable of looking at tonnage of fuel bought in to fuel kiln and kiln output recorded on the meter.

The chain of custody is tightening up as you are probably aware.

I'm with you in this mate exactly what I would do.

A good friend has an installation from Glen farrow going ahead at the end of the month. The contract states that if you can't get the RHI they will refund in full not ideal but at least you know your not going to loose.
