Established (10 years +) south coast located garden loquat tree, fruited for the first time this summer. Tree has now shed nearly all leaves which turned red before dropping. Any ideas - is this normal part of cycle or is tree actually sickand if so, is there any remedy anyone can recommend?

How much growth has taken place in 10 years?, has the Tree been fertilized at all during this period of time? Leaves dropping this time of year makes sense with winter on its way.

Growth good to date. But no fruit before. Think it is an evergreen so concerned all leaves lost this year. Usually one or two leaves only turn yellowv and drop.

All plant material needs to have something to eat. Even after 10 years the trees root system will consume most of the food supply. I would suggest a 2-10-10 or a 2-8-8 1 Lb per foot of growth disperse 1 foot away from the trunk and 3 feet be on the drip line. We fertilize in the fall and the spring here state side.

On south coast UK. We have had real odd weather this year. Weeks of heavy rain followed by a beautiful fine, long, sunny, warm summer. Fruit came in July. Then leaves started to drop. Old withered fruit remain only at top of tree ( we picked the rest ) and very few leaves remain now and they asre all dead red leaves. Previously all leaves retained and the odd yellowing leaf only would drop.

Yes I looked up leaf and fruit pictures and i believe it is a Chinese loquat
