Drilling sugi bars?

Just checking, I've just got a 36" sugi bar for chainsaw milling and I'd like to mount it with bolts rather than clamping it on, where is the furthest point suitable for drilling towards the nose end? Apparently on the stihl bars you can drill in the center of the nose but I'd be weary about doing that and ruining a sprocket..

I'm not sure you could drill a Stihl bar that way - the solid nose Duromatic type you could but don't think you could drill a sprocket nose....

I would drill the bar before the start of the replaceable sprocket nose but be aware they are rock hard!

I wouldn't try and drill too close to the actual sprocket itself.

Is this for quicker and easier mounting? Often thought that mills would be better with bars pre drilled for bolting onto the mill rather than clamps... but it would mean the Alaskan would loose some of it's adjust ability...

Quicker mounting, you can swap chains without taking the bar off the mill, more ridgid ..

For adjustability do you mean moving the nose clamp closer on smaller bits of wood so there's less flex in the bar?

The only other thought I had was drilling out the rivet that holds the nose on and bolting through there..

You could possibly drill out the central of the 3 rivets that holds the nose on....
