i'vv had a mooch on the net but cant find any info regarding when my stihl 024 was manufactured when new as it would be nice to know how old it is. I would of thought there would be a engine number table on how to tell etc. As my serial number is 127578115 but unsure how to read the numbers to work out the year so would be grateful for ant help thanks

You have to email Stihl for it's date of registry, Stihl don't really put a date on, although you may be able to find a date stamp around the flywheel area

From a similar request on Arboristsite it seems the only way is to contact Stihl and ask. The 1 at the beginning shows it to be German made, 2 is American but other then that there is no more info in the serial number.

Mr. Hobby,

We are in receipt of and thank you for your e-mail. Besides

the first digit, which is the plant identifier number, all other numbers are

just random sequences. There is no way to tell the date of manufacture of

the unit except by registration and production records. If you will provide

me with the serial number, I will research it and tell you when the chainsaw

was manufactured. Anyone can contact us for this information, and that would be the only way to find it.

Thank you again for your e-mail.

Best regards,

Wayne Lemmond
