Hello

 

Just started out in the tree work, well not really started, more trying to get started, I've just got my CS30 + 31 and always worked in the outdoors, had a breakthrough and got myself an interview with a big company.

 

Thing is, I don't have a clue what to expect in the interview. Had lots of interviews in the past, but not in this line of work.

 

What sort of thing am I likely to be asked, expected to know and what are they looking for in my answers?

 

What questions should I be asking in the interview to work out if they are a bunch of butchers or not?

 

Any advice is welcome,

i have always just been myself mate, you are going for a tree worker interview not a sales assistant in a shop. be early, on time and take your kit with you. i rate time keeping and manners above all else. once you are in the door then you can sus out the company

and make sure your kits clean, and sorted, not just a bundle of crap.

your interview starts from the second the boss sees you, dont go bombing into the yard in your car and jump out with your laces undone. carry yourself well and take some pride in your appearance, not poncy but clean and professional. dont walk by any lads struggling with a trailer and tow ball, give a hand. be pleasant. this job is all about graft, simple. dont moan or groan, or give a big sigh if you are tol to split logs all day or bag chips, just do it and smile. dont ask a million questions first thing in the morning and dont talk about fitba

as shreks wee bro said, it starts as soon as you get there, the first apperence he sees isin a way going to start you of in a good eye or a bad one, just be your self and as the others have said clean kit and dont over dress as it is a graft of a job good luch

you haven`t said which company you are going for the interveiw with. Maybe people on here will be able to enlighten you about them.

If its only an interview you wont need climbing gear, sarnies etc (unless stipulated).

 

I would turn up smart and punctual with current Cv and copies of certification held, you will obviously be asked on past experience, maybe tested on a bit of tree knowledge, legislation etc and also a bit about how you think you can offer something to the comapany and your long term career plans.

 

I would ask them the obvious Q's on pay, hours, holidays etc but also on training policies and career opportunities within the comapany (if its a large outfit)

 

I would look them up on the web and find out as much info about them as possible, then blow smoke up the @rse of the interviewer/owner!!

more chance if you ask me, cant keep an eye on the staff all the time. owner/climber has to answer to the customer there and then. imo:001_smile:
