Cherry tea diseased?

Hi,

 

We have an edible sweet cherry tree in our front garden, and I'm after any advice on what may be wrong with it. We haven't had any cherries on it for the last 2 years, and had it pruned professionally early this year. The leaves are curling, and some have browned and dropped already. Others have quite a lot of holes in. There's also some small areas of sap weeping from the trunk. Any advice would be appreciated, I've attached some photos

Hard to tell from those pics, cherry should only be pruned in summer to avoid silver leaf.

 

It doesn't look too bad to be honest, possibly some form of bacterial canker?

Yes probably bacterial canker. A close up of the pruning wound would help decide.

I'm seeing a lot of cherry trees in similar condition up in the north east this year. Some are pretty bad and in a lot worse condition than yours. Not much help, but you're not alone.

It's probably Pseudomonas syringae pv. mors-prunorum. A bacterial canker. The holes in the leaves are where necrotic tissue as fallen out. Take a look at the Horticulture Week fact sheet Pest & Disease Factsheet - Cankers | Horticulture Week

Thanks everyone. Would the next step be to get a professional out to look at the tree? If it is bacterial canker can it be treated?
