Thanks.. what about 3/8 does the same apply? The bar I have is 3/8..

Ok.. well now I feel even more of a fool. I was lazy and rather than count the DL .. saw a familiar number 73 engraved on the chain and wrongly assumed that was the count.. it was only when you mentioned made to order/ from reel i started to doubt.. in fact. the DL is 64. (counted 3 times to be sure..)

From tip to guard I'm measuring 17" and length off is 505mm .

And i though a little chainsaw maintenance was going to be simple .. how wrong could I be.. :blushing:

ok.. so anyway i now know my chain is a oregon 73. Which isn't green.

The 64dl 3/8 bars are "called" 18" bars, but you are right it really is a 17" bar.

The 73 on your drive links tells that it is a .058 gauge Oregon chain, and nothing else. The dl count never is marked on the chain, you have to count.

The only "green" Oregon 73 chain I know of is the 73V (vanguard - see comment in earlier post).

Btw, if you want to measure a bar correctly, the measure you should take is from the front of the saw case, to the top of a cutter at the tip of the bar.

That is how it is defined, but the funny thing is that the result may vary with the saw you put the bar on, and the size of the drive sprocket.

Windsor and Carlton have been bought up by Oregons owner (Blount), and as far as I know all that is left of the Windsor products are some of the bars, that are sold under the Carlton brand name (Speed-Tip). Windsor branded products are history (again, as far as I know).

Could be that Windsor kit has gone in your part of the world Troll, but my part SW France it"s alive & well, at least in the bar & chain department, some replacement sprocket tips are becoming a bit hard to find, but the more popular bits are quite plentiful. Not sure if they are Blount made but the Sandvik bars we get look identical to the Windsor ones we have available here.

Interesting - I was really referring to the situation in North America. If the brand had some brand recognition worth exploiting somewhere, Blount may well have kept the brand "artificially alive" at those markets?:confused1:
