Stihl 08S driving me up the wall

My old 08S clutch started slipping and was showing heat damage.

I replaced the clutch, clutch sprocket and the needle roller bearing. The crankshaft is straight and runs true to less than .001" measured by DTI.

The powerhead starts and runs perfectly until the bar and chain are fitted.

The chain then is driven by the starting cord (clutch dragging).

The bar is straight and the chain in good order.

There is obviously mechanical interference which is causing the drum to contact the clutch shoes, but believe me the fault is not apparent.

Desperate cry for help!

If everything is spot on ,your idling revs must be to high?

I started to write that until I read it does it when he goes to pull start it so the saws not even running at that stage :confused1:

I m assuming that's what he means by the clutch dragging by the starter cord?

Can you fit the bar and chain and put the nuts on tight without the chain cover and pull it over with the sparkplug boot off ?

Ive seen 075/076's that have lost a plastic guard/cover that lives in the cover and cause binding issues.

This was in response to s.varty.

No, the clutch drags too much for the engine to start. The powerhead runs perfectly without the bar and chain.

It would do because theres no strain without the bar and chain. Wrong clutch or springs are knackered, there really is not much else
