Do you live or work in rural Scotland?

Recommended Posts

I find the SNP land reform proposals very worrying. This feels like it could turn into an extension of that. We may well live in an unequal society, especially where land ownership is concerned, but the day when the state forcibly takes away the land or property of its citizens is the beginning of the end of society. If you know that your land can be taken from you it has no value, if it has no value whats the point in investing in or maintaining it? No one will buy it for the same reasons. When the land looses its value so will other property, the knock on effects on the rest of the economy would be catastrophic.

Mugabe tried this, it didn't go well.

Forcibly taking away land from an individual is protected under the Human Rights Act of Right to Property, unless of course it is in the "public interest". By coincidence the Land Reforms Review Group's final review mentions the buzz word "public interest" almost 250 times.

Aye the whole land reform thing and toy town parliment at holyrood is prety worrying. Much as i woud love an indpendent scotland the snp and scottish politics in general scare the hell out of me

I wish ur mrs all the best with the project but unfortunately quite often the people who want or can afford to volanteer are often the very people who should not be allowed anywhere near a commitee.

See it all the time with community councils etc full of old retired incomers with nothing better to do and no links or interest in the countryside

I cannae disagree with any of those last three comments, I must agree that the idea of an independent Scotland sounds good to me. Letting the SNP run it sounds like a disaster waiting to happen.

The land reform debate is an interesting topic and huge bone of contention for a lot of people, I think anything that is done must be done in a way where by the above (Tom D) does not happen. I think derelict/unmanaged land, or land that is up for sale is one thing, but compulsory purchases (do I hear clearances in the highlands) is a nightmare if that ever comes about.

Thanks for your support, lets hope this one works out.

ps, did any of you fill in the survey?

yes, the appointed directors are all volounteers, but who gets to oversee there"expenses", and when do they get replaced by someone who actually has a clue what is going on, and can actually do some good, its going to turn into another farsical quango with some fat cats getting even fatter at our expense, the initial "thing " was mentioned a couple of years ago, but they didnt want joe public getting involved, still the same, thats what I inferred by the saying "jobs for the boys".....the little clique looking after themselves
