I regularly have use of a 54 plate TD4 whilst jeep cherokee being repaired,

lovely driver, capable off roader, average tower, great MPG, space for Kit great..would imagine the commercial version to be even better.

Use it for qoutes, travel to subcontract yards and odd garden maintainence job and small tree work with an 8 x 4 single axle trailer.

Reliable too.

We run 2 freelander commercials and they have been no problem at all. That td4 version returns 50+ mpg.

I have never driven a freelander but as I am now covering a lot of miles I have been looking for a vehicle with decent MPG. Parkers states the TD4 achieve much lower 32-37MPG. The 1.8 only 27 MPG. There are not many vans that will do 50MPG and I don't think there are any 4x4's. The 4x4 VW caddy is about the best and that is low 40's.

We only have the one guy driving that car and thats what he reckons it at. He fills it up once a week and hes in the thing most of the time, he has put over 150.000 miles on it in the four years he has had it. I will monitor it next week and report back but dont be surprised if that he is right.

The 2.2 td4 automatic freelanders achieve 50mpg figure and that is a bigger heavier car on a auto box.

LAND ROVER FREELANDER REVIEWS

The Land Rover Freelander is Land Rover’s smallest SUV and is available in both two- and four-wheel drive variants.

The Land Rover Freelander was updated in 2006 and the current model is known as the Freelander 2. The compact SUV is available with a range of petrol and diesel engines and is surprisingly frugal, capable of nearly 50mpg combined. Despite its compact size the Land Rover Freelander is still a fearsome offroad performer.

Land Rover Freelander prices start at around £22,000.
