Can anyone suggest ins company for a iveco 6.5t

Current ins says they can't put my name on ins until I've a years lgv licence expierence????? Idiots. My dad can go on no bother as driven 40years with hgv's. But what they can't do is put me on aswell, as I could do with driving with my lgv provisional till July when I can sit my test (can only drive 3.5t).

But even then they say I can't get insured for 12month to drive it, are they retarded? Insured thru trust but not sure of there insurer

Any advice greatly received :)

I think if he only carries tools then he would escape it but if he carried goods ie logs then the driver needs a CPC. If you are only just passing test then you are okay as far as I am aware for 5 years

The exemption is for people who don't drive for a living and has nothing to do with carriage of goods

You'll need an operators licence and your vehicle will need checks every 10 weeks you will also have to do daily vehicle checks. You won't need an cpc because you are not carrying goods or materials for reward. You'll also need to operate within a 60km radius of your home base.

Me and Chris gill had the pleasure of a seminar with the DVSA that's what they told us

That's not quite accurate.

The not needing a CPC thing has nothing to do with hire or reward, if you take your truck to a job and get paid, its part of a hire or reward job so its in hire or reward whatever you do.

There are 2 types of CPC in this, driver CPC you don't need because driving isn't your main job.

Holding an "O" licence normally requires a CPC holder but if your licence is a UK restricted as opposed to a UK Standard national or international, you are exempt from CPC holder requirement.

On a restricted licence you are restricted to own goods, the definition of this is that you cant move goods for third parties.

You can move anything to do with your business activity's but not other peoples goods. So moving chip and logs is OK but to take an example, you cant deliver a generator to a site for someone else but if it were your own generator needed on the job then that would be OK.

This is where the hire or reward confusion comes in, its all hire or reward but third party goods aren't allowed on a restricted "O" licence.
